Insurance Coverage
Motor Vehicle Accident Coverage
Psychological services may be covered if you were injured in a motor vehicle accident in Alberta. Our team is here to help you understand the process and access care that supports your recovery.
How MVA Coverage Works
Under Alberta's Automobile Accident Benefits (AAIB), psychological services can be billed to your auto insurance provider once extended health benefits have been used first. If you have a private health benefit plan, those benefits are considered the primary payer. MVA would be considered secondary. This means that we will need to submit claims under your extended benefits first and the remaining portion may be billed to MVA insurance.
Why This Matters
If MVA insurance discovers that another health benefit plan could have been billed first, they may request repayment. In that situation, any paid balance becomes the client's responsibility.
Do I Need a Doctor's Note?
Most insurers require a doctor's note confirming: the injuries are related to the motor vehicle accident and the psychological treatment is recommended.
